The Best News Coverage award recognises the title that has broken the most significant and impactful news stories in the Australian IT industry. It can include both B2B and mainstream technology stories, and entries will be judged on impact within their target audiences.

Entry Requirements

Best News Journalist

The Cass Warneminde Best News Journalist award recognises the journalist who broke the most significant and impactful news stories related to the Australian IT industry in 2013. This award is judged based on the submission of 3 news stories and can include B2B and mainstream news articles.

Entry Requirements

1. Submit three articles that do not exceed 6000 words in total.
2. Optional supporting arguments, helping the judge to understand the impact or success of the submitted stories.
 
Best Business Coverage

The Best Business Coverage awards the team whose writing is the most effective in meeting the information needs of business readers. This includes IT Managers and professionals, as well as IT industry readers; ie channel, investors. The category is judged on the basis of BUSINESS value and impact.

2. Optional supporting arguments, helping the judge to understand the impact or success of the submitted stories.
 
Best Business Journalist

The John Costello Best Business Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best covered business technology for USERS including CIOs, IT managers, IT professionals and business executives using the news and features format. Please note that stories written for industry, vendor and channel executives should NOT be submitted in this category and should instead be entered in Best Technology Industry Journalist.

Best Technology Industry Journalist


The Best Technology Industry Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best covered the ICT Industries in Australia or New Zealand. This includes content written for and about IT businesses, including vendors, distributors, resellers and services companies, as well as shareholders or investors in those companies. Please note stories written for business USERS (eg CIOs) should not be entered in this category and should be submitted into Best Business Technology Journalist

Entry Requirements

1. Submit three articles that do not exceed 6000 words in total.
2. Optional supporting arguments, helping the judge to understand the impact or success of the submitted stories.

Please note: Content written for and about business users of technology should not be submitted in this category. This includes recruitment stories. Content written about telecommunications companies should not be submitted in this category.
 
Best Consumer Technology Coverage


The Best Consumer Technology Coverage award recognises the title that has delivered the best content about consumer technology (including PCs, gadgets, Internet, lifestyle and consumer electronics) for consumers and mainstream audiences.

Best Consumer Technology Journalist

The Helen Dancer Best Consumer Technology Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best used the news and features format to cover important technology issues for a mainstream audience.

The Best Telecommunications Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best covered the telecommunication industries in Australia or New Zealand. This includes content written for and about the telecommunications sector.

Best Gaming Coverage

The Best Gaming Coverage award recognises the title that has delivered the best content about gaming for gaming consumers and/or the gaming industry.

Best Columnist

The Best Columnist award recognises the journalist who makes best use of the opinion format to communicate his or her ideas, thoughts and opinions via a column or blog.

Best Reviewer

The Best Reviewer award recognises the journalist who makes best use of the review format to review, rate and analyse product merits.

Please note: Gaming reviews should not be entered in this category. They should be submitted for consideration for the Best Gaming Coverage award.
 
Best New Journalist

The Alicia Camphuisen Best New Journalist award recognises the best newcomer to technology journalism. This award is open to journalists who began writing about technology after July 1, 2013 and who have no more than 3 years' experience as a professional journalist.

Entry Requirements

2. Optional supporting arguments, helping the judge to understand the impact or success of the submitted stories.
 
Best Technical Journalist

The Best Technical Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best communicated technical subject matter to their audience, making it understandable and useful. This includes content that describes how technology or products work, or tutorial or how-to content that communicates how to use a product. 

Entry Requirements

1. Submit three articles that do not exceed 6000 words in total.
2. Optional supporting arguments, helping the judge to understand the impact or success of the submitted stories.

Please note: Reviews will not be accepted in this category.

 
Best Independent Coverage


The Best Independent Coverage award will recognise the best writing of coverage created by a non-commercial or semi-professional content creator.
To qualify for this category you should:
-- Not work, or have recently worked, as a professional technology journalist or analyst.
-- The work submitted should not have first appeared in a commercial outlet (a commercial outlet is defined as an outlet generating enough income to support multiple full-time staff). An article that was originally blogged, but was then re-run on a commercial site is acceptable.
This award can be entered by either a single individual or a website/outlet.  It may include any form of content, including blogs, reviews, news, video or audio.

2. Optional supporting arguments, helping the judge to understand the impact or success of the submitted stories.
 
Best Security Journalist

The Best Security Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best communicated on matters of technological security and the security industry.

Best Technology Issues Journalist

The Best Technology Issues Journalist award recognises the journalist who has best communicated on social and political issues surrounding technology. This includes broad social and cultural issues like privacy and digital identity, as well as public policy and its effects.
